OUR HISTORY
The Lupita Project began more than 16 years ago with donations of medical equipment (wheelchairs, canes, batteries, etc.) collected by our founder and transferred to the DIF Huatulco, Oaxaca, México, for distribution.

The project has grown organically to meet the needs of our patients ever since.

More than six years ago the project received its name after we met a young woman named Lupita who had been confined to bed, with the support of family, for more than 30 years after an accident left her in a semi vegetative state.

Though it proved impossible to improve her medical condition we were able to improve her quality of life with basic physical therapy, and improved ways of feeding, change of her posture, as well as the donation of a wheelchair especially for her needs, and a elevator lift to assist in moving her from bed to chair.

LUPITA IN THERAPY
The experience with Lupita opened our eyes to other children and adults with special needs.
As we came to know other patients with serious medical challenges we formed an alliance with Shriners Hospital for Children, Mexico City. Here our patients receive evaluation, operation, and prosthetics free of charge until the age of eighteen years.

The Lupita Project relies on the DIF, Huatulco, for transportation to Mexico City of four to seven children and their parents five times per year.

To support, evaluate, and follow our patients we enjoy the services of orthopedic specialists in pediatrics, and trauma.

The project now has more than seventeen professional volunteers and staff to provide the following services:
-Evaluation and therapy by medical personnel and our surgical team.
-Evaluation and EEG therapy by our neurologist and technical team.
-Physiotherapy in our clinic "María del Carmen Rehabilitation Clinic".
-Physiotherapy at home.
-Hydrotherapy in swimming pools and the ocean by the bay of Santa Cruz.
-Occupational therapy.
-Alliance with Shriners Hospital for Children.
-Evaluation and treatment of clubfoot (PEVAC) using the Ponseti technique.
-Prostheses for adults in our clinic.
-Donations of medical equipment and supplies.
In addition to English classes and instruction, so that our patients can enjoy a more productive life as we believe that education is the key to success.
Our philosophy is "TOGETHER WE CAN" as we believe there will be no continued success without the help of our volunteers and generous sponsors.
